ABOUT

Don't be surprised to see a few cables lying around on stage. Piano and drums, of course, but also Rhodes, synths, loops, some effects, a glockenspiel and a kalimba. All this with two thirty-something musicians, well anchored in their time. Obradovic's strike force is a delight. It is incisive, precise, sharp, groovy. It contrasts magnificantly with the rounded touch of David Tixier, whose scrolling harmonies outline the space. Here and there, at the turn of an improvisation marked by a hypnotic motif of a well-looped bass synth, we will hear Bach's ghost, the time of a fugue. The game is also completely visual, direct, far from any abstraction. This duo evolves with feline ease in the middle of plural instruments that they distribute and master with class. No free hacking: here, we handle the effect with subtlety, in a thoughtful way. We feel that everything has been thought out with care, but the service delivered is very much alive, organic. Prolific, the group already has three record store releases to its credit, between 2017 and 2019. It has won ten awards in a few years. Contemporary, Lada Obradovic also works for a Netflix series devoted to jazz, while the group's videos posted on YouTube faithfully symbolize his music, with multiple shots, in time lapse, which reveals the art of their original compositions.

Obradovic-Tixier Duo is the combination of French pianist David Tixier and Croatian drummer Lada Obradovic. The duo produce a contemporary and stylish sound blending acoustic and electronic instruments, moog, Fender Rhodes, glockenspiel, mbira and other playthings. A soft yet striking performance where David's sophisticated harmonies and lyrical drama interweave with Lada's polyrhythms. An almost serial shamanic piano phrase is muffled by digital blankets whilst a volley of cymbals whisks us away like wings beating through the air. Together, the pair weave a captivating tale.
